For the second year in a row, the Institut français in partnership with MaMA and the Bureau Export, is organising a focus dedicated to popular music. This promotional and networking session will happen during the 5th edition of MaMA in Paris from October the 15th to October the 17th. The focus is supported by the French cultural network in foreign countries (embassies, Institut français, Alliances françaises), who will invite international professionals.

This Focus aims to promote the French music scene to around 60 invited professionals (festival artistic directors, booking agents, label representatives, live music producers etc). Its goal is to foster professional exchanges and collaborations, and facilitate French artists' development internationally. The Focus will introduce to foreign professionals a series of concerts, conferences, workshops, speedmeeting sessions, selected in MaMA programme. Priority will be given to emerging artists in various styles promoted by MaMA.

This project is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and Communication and SACEM.

The focus will once again host another session of Equation Musique, a program supporting the presence of professionals from African (Africa, Caribbean) countries and their artists on our markets, in partnership with The Organisation internationale de la Francophonie since 2008. At MaMA 2014, Equation Musique is going to invite ten African professionals (producers, promoters, labels, festivals...), who will meet their French and international counterparts.

After programming Just A Band (Kenya), Faada Freddy (Senegal) and Jeremy Loops (South Africa) in 2013, Equation Musique supports two artists from the South this year : Nakhane Touré (South Africa) and Moona (Senegal).

About 20 agents from the French cultural network in foreign countries will be present at MaMA.

With the creation of the AVANT-GARDE project, established in collaboration with the Yourope network and sponsored by the Sacem and Bureau Export, MaMA asserts its international identity and its support for exportation. For 2 days, Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th of October from 3 to 5pm, the Atalante Theater will welcome a selection of new French talent, also programed during MaMA, who will perform small shows. These mini showcases are solely reserved for- and by registration only- international festival programmers.
