An examination of just how artists and those connected with the development of their careers actually make a living in today’s vastly changed, and still changing international music business. At one time aspiring pop stars aimed to be famous – and just maybe – rich, and of course many of them achieved both goals, and some still do – but things aren’t what they used to be. At a time when music is seen by many as a free commodity, and with increased competition for consumer spend from Games, Film etc. the producers of music have to be aware of, and to actively exploit a much wider range of connected and ancillary activities to ensure survival and hopefully profitable success.
