ELECTRONIC MUSIC SUCCESS IN EUROPE: SUCCESS STORIES & HOW FRANCE CAN CATCH UP

Electronic music has developed important economic ecosystems throughout Europe, allowing tens of thousands of people to live off of a strong cultural economy. This development has led to the rise of economic heavyweights such as the Sonar Festival and the Monegros Festival in Spain, the companies ID&T in the Netherlands, etc. Yet, in the face of these strong economic opportunities, France is well behind in the development of its electronic festivals. While countries such as Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany host electronic music festivals that reunite several hundreds of thousands of people, French electronic music festivals struggle to rise above 30,000 people in sales at the box office. The goal of this conference will be to present european “success stories” and to analyze obstacles in France that stand in the way of the development of this cultural economy that has renewed appeal, tourism and the outreach for numerous european cities and regions all while creating strong actors and economic ecosystems.
